MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Retired Army Maj. William Thomas Harper III, 62, of Myrtle Beach, formerly of Fort Bragg, N.C., died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, in Conway Hospital.
Mr. Harper was in the military for 20 years and a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a Green Beret paratrooper and served in the 5th Special Forces Group. Mr. Harper was commander of the 7th Army Parachute Team, stationed in Germany, and the HALO Committee on Fort Bragg. He received several medals, including the Legion of Merit. After his military career, Mr. Harper worked for Excalibur Security and Investigations.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. A private burial will be held. Arrangements are being handled by McMillan-Small Funeral Home & Crematory of Myrtle Beach.
Mr. Harper is survived by three daughters, Lisa Cooney, Tracy Elzeni and Nancy Elliott, all of Myrtle Beach; a brother, Richard Harper of San Francisco; a sister, Joanne Hutton of Morehead City, N.C.; and three grandsons.
